Barbican Centre: Conservatory & Exhibition

One of the perks of living in central London is that there is always something to see or somewhere to go, and all within a 10-minute walk.

The Barbican Centre is one of those places for me, and whilst I haven't taken full advantage of this yet (I can so easily watch films!), I did take a Sunday afternoon exploring the Barbican Conservatory. It's strangely only open on selected Sundays, but thankfully all the upcoming dates are on the website.

It's an incredibly peaceful place, filled with exotic leafy plants and fish. There's a separate arid room for the cacti, which I was excited to see, as well as a staircase that leads to an upper walkway lined with grasses and vines.

As I was leaving the centre, I noticed an exhibition that looked interesting - it's called Purple, by John Akomfrah. I didn't really look into it that much and only spent 15 minutes or so in there, but from what I gathered it was a film about global warming and climate change, told in a series of videos on 6 screens. It was really cool actually, and I would've stayed longer if I was able to. It was hypnotising - the images, words, and especially the sounds. I felt like a changed person when I left, which isn't a bad thing! I'd recommend going, there are only a few more days until it's gone (7th January), but it's free and was really quite good.

With the Barbican Centre so conveniently close, I'm definitely going to visit more often!

More Flowers.

So, here we are again. Are you sick of flowers yet?

I went back to Richmond Park's Isabella Plantation in mid-May, which is when these photos were taken (and forgotten about!). They were definitely not as beautiful as they were in April, but the bees and ducklings that had appeared were a lovely change from the previous BAM-you'll-be-seeing-flowers-in-your-sleep-and-you-can't-escape-it landscape.

Bluebells in the Woods

Here's a little throwback, back to the warm evening on the 29th April when I went into the woods.

It wasn't that dramatic, I'm just a little bored right now and have only my own imagination to entertain me ;)

Anyway, this was more than three months ago, time is flying too fast! I took some photos that day but was too busy at the time to sort through them, so here we are, months later.

On a side note, I finally watched Into the Woods a few days back. It was okay, but not as awesome as I had expected. I'd heard quite a lot of good things about it from friends, so maybe my expectations were too high - the whole concept of intertwining stories was really cool, but the actual plot was a bit meh for me. Too many parts that didn't quite fit in with the story as seamlessly as they should've.

The trip was really just to see the bluebells, which were lovely, albeit a little sparse and withered. Should've gone earlier...

I've been really into cool angles in my photography. There's something about seeing a normal landscape or object from a different angle, like from right next to the ground, that I find so fascinating. Of course, cue the strange stares coming your way as you're crouching in the most awkward places...

Brighter, Bolder & Bigger Flowers at Richmond Park

You know how I said, almost a month ago, that it was the perfect time to go to the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park? Yeah, I take that back, because NOW is the best time to go. It was impossible to look anywhere without having bright pink azaleas in my face, and I absolutely loved it. It was so pretty, it was unreal. Do you see those things below? They're photos... They may look like they're from a crazy colourful alternate universe where Brexit isn't happening and unicorns exist (Wait what? Of course unicorns exist in this world what are you trying to tell me?!), but they're just from plain ol' England.

Get ready for colour so explosive you'd have to find cover from all the shrapnel...

The next few photos are of the Still Pond and the most famous feature of the Isabella Plantation, after the flowers. At this time of the year especially it's so beautiful as there's a wall of brightly coloured azaleas that reflect in the water.

Wait a sec whilst I get that perfect panorama...
