Greece Adventures Day 6 (4/7/17): Saying Our Goodbyes

Day 6, the last day. What a holiday it has been!

I'd converted my friends by this point, and instead of me being the one insistently telling them we needed to have a 'beach holiday', they were the ones who demanded we visit the ocean one last time before we leave Naxos. And I'm glad they did. We woke up bright and early in the morning to slot in some time for photo-taking there, something we didn't do much of in the past few days - expensive cameras, sand, and water don't mix well!

After 'de-sanding' ourselves the best we could (we all know that once you visit the beach, there's sand following you around forever), we had a quick breakfast by the port, whilst keeping one eye out for our ferry.

As soon as it arrived, we ran over, probably looking like we'd just escaped from a mental asylum. All five of us, flying past in a storm of flapping clothes and wide-brimmed hats, whilst dragging our suitcases, which were bouncing up and down on the cobbled floor, behind us. The whole island and all its neighbours may have heard us, but hey, we got on the ferry at least!

Once back in Santorini, we milled around for a few hours before our flight. Seeing Santorini again was like reading old news - we'd had enough already (hence the lack of photos!).

There was a little museum that we decided to visit, the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, a fancy name for a frankly average, borderline boring, museum. It had some artefacts that were taken from Akrotiri, the town we visited on Day 2, which was alright. There was also a small live lizard/gecko that had found its way into the museum and was scuttling around on the floor.

I'm telling you, lizards are getting smarter by the minute! They're already showing interest in humans - they'll be taking over the world soon and we'll all be bowing down to the lizard gods!!

Anyway, I'll end this here before I go too crazy! The flight was okay, I was so exhausted that I slept for quite a lot of it. I also never realised how much I missed my bed at home whilst away. There's just nothing better in life than your own cosy bed :)

Greece was one of the best holidays I've ever had. Not only was the location perfect (you'd have to be blind and in denial to tell me Greece isn't pretty), but I also shared this experience with the people I love, making each moment that much more exciting, beautiful, and special.

Ok, I'm leaving before it gets cheesier than this. There's practically delicious, golden, melted goo seeping off the page and slowly dripping down your device as you read...

I love you

Saatchi Gallery and British Museum Exhibitions

Hiya!

I went to London yesterday, there are a few exhibitions going on which seemed interesting.

First was the Chanel Mademoiselle Prive exhibition in the Saatchi Gallery. It's about Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, and Haute Couture fashion, such as diamonds and the Chanel No5 perfume.

It was very interesting (very sparkly and 'fabricy'), and I got a free tote bag out of it :) The queue to go in, however, had me waiting for over an hour outside.

I then went to the British Museum, to check out two exhibitions - the first being 'Drawing in silver and gold'. It had drawings from artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and took you through the various styles of metalpoint drawings in different eras and countries.

I must say, though it sounds uninteresting, the drawings themselves had so much detail and attention put into them, it was hard not to be amazed by the fine lines and strokes, that apparently were hard to erase and so the artists had to have the whole thing planned out beforehand. So much effort!

The second exhibition was on the Celts, called 'Celts: art and identity'. It was alright, there was a lot of bronze and gold jewellery ('torcs' I learned, was the name they gave to bands around the neck) which was cool to look at.

However, at this point I think I'd had enough of exhibitions, so I quickly scanned the artefacts without reading about them in much detail. It was a massive exhibition anyway.

After I went to Chinatown for dinner and had the biggest dessert ever which I came to regret. It was a spontaneous decision; I had no idea what was in the dessert and no idea how big it would be. It tasted good at first, but I think the mixture of not knowing what I was eating and being too stuffed from the main put me off it quite quickly.

Ah well, photos will be up soon, once I get them onto my computer :)

P.S. Guess what? I just realised it's been exactly a year since my last post about the Chinese Ming Dynasty exhibition in the British Museum! What a coincidence, the exact date...I guess these exhibitions all occur at the same time each year...

Wow my writing style has changed...(!)

Paris Adventures Day 6 (17/8/15) - Les Invalides

Hiya!

This is the last Paris post :(

I feel like my holiday is ending all over again...

Before leaving, I visited one last place, L'Hotel national des Invalides (or just Les Invalides). It's a bunch of buildings which include several museums on French military history, a cathedral, and the actual living quarters of war veterans.

To put it simply, it's all about war.

'Cavalerie'
Also just realised there's a spot on the right which I didn't see when editing....oh well :\

Inside the cathedral.
It was very nice, all airy and soft music playing...

BOOM!
...shakalaka...

A cool museum shot ;)

BRITISH MUSEUM AND LONDON EXPLORATIONS!

Hi!

Sorry, I was too tired yesterday so didn't have the brain energy to zap some words onto my blog.

But, after sleeping until 1 pm today, I'm here, and completely awake.

As I mentioned, I went up to London yesterday! Not just 'I', because I'm still a child...I went with my parents. It was mainly to go to a Ming Dynasty exhibition in The British Museum. To be honest, it was kinda boring. The only fun bit was giggling at the English translations of the Chinese names...like a true Chinese :/

They didn't allow me to take photos in there, so I took a snap of the shop at the end instead:

After, I wandered around a bit. I'm kinda in love with Greek mythology at the moment, so I went to the Ancient Greek areas, where, as predicted, I saw many things...uncovered...

As well as a part of someone's body. Apparently, its one of the goddess', but I don't remember which one...

A masterpiece, right there, that is!

I also admired the wonderful architecture, mainly because I had nothing better to do. And also because it is really cool, in my opinion.

After The British Museum, we went to Chinatown. It's hard not to turn up at Chinatown when:

1.  We're Chinese
2.  Chinatown's are everywhere
and 3.  I was hungry and needed lunch

It's a sort of unspoken rule among the Chinese population in countries which are not China that whenever you are within at least 10 minutes travelling distance to Chinatown, you must go.

Or maybe that's just what I think...

We had lunch, at 4 pm might I add, and then went to a few shops in Chinatown. There wasn't much to buy, so my parents and I started on our way home. The Underground was so packed, and after all the walking in the museum, I really didn't like standing, clutching onto a sweaty pole for half my journey back. It was also kinda late, so I was grumpy and tired.

But, I finally got back home in the end. After having walked from the train station all the way back home...

Anyways, although I was tired, it was a fun day nonetheless. It was different at least, it's not every day that you check out museum exhibitions in London!

I love y'all, and I'll talk to you next time...

Arrivederci!
