Watching Football?!

Hiya!

This is a continuation of yesterday's post - it happened just after :)

Well, you can probably guess what I'm going to be talking about from the title. The Champions League final - a European football (or soccer for some) competition. And something I had no idea about until yesterday. I only knew it as 'a football thing which guys like to make a big deal of'.

But anyway, after strawberry picking, I went over to a family friend's house. They have a 9-year-old boy, who's addicted to football, and who literally dragged me inside, pulled me onto the sofa and told me to watch the Champions League with him.

This was, by the way, the first time I had ever watched football on TV for more than a split second (whilst changing channels), and the first time I had actually enjoyed anything football related.

I started watching at around 50 minutes in - it was 1-0 to Barcelona, and I was thoroughly bored. However, the boy kept on jabbering on about the game and asking me whether or not I knew Mr. Footballers X, Y and Z. My answer to each was “no”, which caused him the greatest distress, and so he would proceed to explain them to me.

I am now an expert on Suarez, Buffon, and Neymar. Kind of. Well, I know they’re footballers… Also, is it just me, or did Messi look a bit like Benedict Cumberbatch from certain angles? Somehow, sometimes, from the side and back – it was probably the hair and nose…

Anyway, then a few minutes later, Juventus (the Italian team) scored. It was amazing! I’d never seen anything like it – mainly due to the fact I’d never watched football before. It was a mixture of luck, quick thinking, and nimble feet.

The score was then Juventus 1-1 Barcelona.

After that, I was really into it. I stayed through the rest of the game: I oohed at misses, ouched at painful incidents and downed a whole Appletiser in ten seconds.

It was awesome.

Barcelona scored twice more, and at the end with Barcelona 3-1 Juventus, I felt strangely happy with myself. I found out that you actually need tons of skill to play that well and I actually like watching football. And not just for the buff guys ;)

I love y'all, and goodbye!

P.S. Good luck to those who have their maths exam tomorrow :)
